Colorado - How To Transfer A Title
Before beginning, please note the following:
- Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
- Do not erase anything or use white-out.
- Write neatly.
- Do not use nicknames.
- Mistakes can void the document.
Colorado Title Transfer
Front of Title:
*Green = Lienholder*
- If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
- If there is another lienholder, they will also release the lien by entering the required information.
Back of Title:
*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer*
- The seller enters the exact odometer reading and then checks the box stating the mileage listed is the vehicle's actual mileage.
- Don't include tenths of a mile.
- Only check boxes 2 or 3 if the mileage is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or the mileage listed is not the actual mileage.
- The buyer prints their name, enters their address, city, state, and zip code, and signs their name.
- If there is a co-buyer, they will also print their name, enter their address, city, state, and zip code, and then sign their name.
- The seller prints and signs their name and then enters the date of the sale and purchase price of the vehicle.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also sign their name.
What to Bring to the DMV
- The Title
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
- Application for Title and/or Registration
- Valid Form of Identification
- Security Agreement
- If applicable.
- The document must be an original, carbon copy, or a certified copy and must contain vehicle description - year, make, vehicle identification number or VIN, lienholder's name and address, lien amount, and owner's signature.
- Payment for Applicable Fees
