Connecticut - How To Transfer A Title
Before beginning, please note the following:
- Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
- Do not erase anything or use white-out.
- Write neatly.
- Do not use nicknames.
- Mistakes can void the document.
Connecticut Title Transfer
Front of Title:
*Red = Lienholder*
- If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
- If there is a second lien, they will also release the lien by entering the required information.
Back of Title:
*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer*
- The seller enters the exact odometer reading.
- Don't include tenths of a mile.
- Only check boxes 1 or 2 if the mileage is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or if the odometer reading is not the actual mileage.
- The buyer enters their name, address, the name of the new lienholder to be found on the new title (if applicable), the date of the lien, their printed name, and their signature.
- If there is a co-buyer, they will also sign and print their name.
- The seller prints their name, enters the date of sale and then signs their name.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also print and sign their name.
What to Bring to the DMV
- The Original Title
- Cannot be a copy.
- Registration and Title Application
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
- Payment for Applicable Fees
