Michigan - How To Transfer A Title
Before beginning, please note the following:
- Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
- Do not erase anything or use white-out.
- Write neatly.
- Do not use nicknames.
- Mistakes can void the document.
Michigan Title Transfer
Front of Title:
*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer*
- The seller enters the buyer's name, the sale date, the selling price, and the buyer's street address, city, state, and zip code.
- If there is a co-buyer, the seller will also enter their name.
- The seller enters the exact odometer reading and checks the first box stating that the mileage entered is the actual mileage. The seller then signs and prints their name and enters their street address, city, state, and zip code.
- Don't include tenths of a mile.
- Only check boxes 2 or 3 if the mileage is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or the reading is not the actual mileage.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also sign and print their name.
- The buyer enters their signature and printed name and, if applicable, enters the name and address of the lienholder to appear on the new title.
What to Bring to the Secretary of State Office
- The Original or Duplicate Title
- Appointment of Agent Form
- Only if multiple owners are listed on the new title and not all owners can be present.
- Valid Michigan Auto Insurance Policy
- Proof of Lien Satisfaction
- If applicable.
- Payment for Applicable Fees
