New Mexico - How To Transfer A Title
Before beginning, please note the following:
- Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
- Do not erase anything or use white-out.
- Write neatly.
- Do not use nicknames.
- Mistakes can void the document.
New Mexico Title Transfer
Front of Title:
*Green = Lienholder, Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer*
- If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
- The seller enters the price the vehicle was sold for, the day, month, year, and the name and address of the buyer.
- If there is a co-buyer, the seller will also enter their name.
- If applicable, the buyer will enter the name and address of the lienholder to appear on the new title, as well as the file and maturity date of the lien.
- If there will be no lienholder on the new title, enter "NONE."
- The seller enters the exact odometer reading, checks box A to certify that the reading is the actual mileage, then signs and prints their name.
- Don't include tenths of a mile.
- Only check boxes B or C if the mileage is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or the reading is not the actual mileage.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also sign and print their name.
- The buyer signs and prints their name.
- If there is a co-buyer, they will also sign and print their name.
What to Bring to the MVD
- The Original or Duplicate Title
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
- Odometer Disclosure Statement
- Only if you did not complete the Assignment of Title section on the back of the title.
- Application for Title and Registration
- Valid Form of Identity
- Valid New Mexico Auto Insurance Policy
- Proof of Lien Satisfaction
- If applicable.
- Payment for Applicable Fees
