Tennessee - How To Transfer A Title
Before beginning, please note the following:
- Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
- Do not erase anything or use white-out.
- Write neatly.
- Do not use nicknames.
- Mistakes can void the document.
Tennessee Title Transfer
Front of Title:
*Lienholder = Red*
- If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
- If there is a second lienholder, they will also release the lien by entering the required information.
Back of Title:
*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer*
- The seller enters the exact odometer reading and their signature.
- Check the box above the odometer reading to certify that the odometer reading listed is the actual odometer reading to the best of your knowledge.
- Don't include tenths of a mile.
- Only check boxes 1 or 2 if the odometer reading is in excess of its mechanical limits or the reading isn't the actual mileage.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also sign their name.
- The seller prints their name and enters the sale date and price.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also print their name.
- The buyer signs and prints their name.
- If there is a co-buyer, they will also sign and print their name.
Other Required Documents
- Odometer Disclosure Statement
- Affidavit of Non-Dealer Transfers of Motor Vehicles and Boats
- Copy of current registration
- Only if you plan on transferring the license plate from your previous vehicle
