Tennessee - How To Transfer A Title

Before beginning, please note the following:

  • Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
  • Do not erase anything or use white-out.
  • Write neatly.
  • Do not use nicknames.
  • Mistakes can void the document.

Tennessee Title Transfer

Front of Title: 

*Lienholder = Red*

  1. If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
    1. If there is a second lienholder, they will also release the lien by entering the required information.

Back of Title:

*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer*

  1. The seller enters the exact odometer reading and their signature.
    1. Check the box above the odometer reading to certify that the odometer reading listed is the actual odometer reading to the best of your knowledge.
    2. Don't include tenths of a mile.
    3. Only check boxes 1 or 2 if the odometer reading is in excess of its mechanical limits or the reading isn't the actual mileage. 
    4. If there is a co-seller, they will also sign their name.
  2. The seller prints their name and enters the sale date and price.
    1. If there is a co-seller, they will also print their name.
  3. The buyer signs and prints their name.
    1. If there is a co-buyer, they will also sign and print their name.
