Hawaii - How To Transfer A Title
Before beginning, please note the following:
- Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
- Do not erase anything or use white-out.
- Write neatly.
- Do not use nicknames.
- Mistakes can void the document.
Hawaii Title Transfer
Front of Title:
*Red = Seller, Green = Notary*
- The seller enters the exact odometer reading.
- Don't include tenths of a mile.
- Only check boxes 1 or 2 if the mileage is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or the odometer reading is not the actual mileage.
- The seller enters the date of transfer and then prints and signs their name.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also enter the date of transfer and then sign and print their name.
- A notary will enter the required information.
Back of Title:
*Teal = Buyer, Green = Lienholder*
- If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
- The buyer prints their last, first, and middle name, the purchase date, street address, city, state, and zip code, and then prints and signs their name.
- If there is a co-buyer, they will also enter their last, first, and middle name, the purchase date, and then print and sign their name.
- If applicable, the lienholder to appear on the new lien will enter the required information.
- If there is no lienholder, write "NONE" on line 1.
What to Bring to the DMV
- The Original Title
- The Current Vehicle Registration
- Notice of Transfer Form
- Seller only.
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
- Valid Form of Identification
- Buyer and seller
- Payment for Applicable Fees
