Louisiana - How To Transfer A Title
Before beginning, please note the following:
- Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
- Do not erase anything or use white-out.
- Write neatly.
- Do not use nicknames.
- Mistakes can void the document.
Louisiana Title Transfer
Front of Title:
*Green = Lienholder*
- If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
- If there is more than one lienholder, they will also release the lien by entering the required information.
Back of Title:
*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer, Green = Notary/Witness*
- The seller enters the transfer date, the sale price, and then the name and address of the buyer.
- If there is a co-buyer, the seller will also enter their name.
- The seller enters the exact odometer reading and signs and prints their name.
- Don't include tenths of a mile.
- Only check boxes 1 or 2 if the mileage is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or if the reading is not the actual mileage.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also sign and print their name.
- The buyer signs and prints their name.
- If there is a co-buyer, they will also sign and print their name.
- The seller signs and prints their name.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also sign and print their name.
- A witness and a notary enters the required information.
What to Bring to the OMV
- The Original Title
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
- Vehicle Application
- Odometer Disclosure Statement
- Only if the vehicle is less than ten years old
- Proof of a Valid Louisiana Auto Insurance Policy
- Valid Form of Identification
- For both the buyer and seller.
- Lien Satisfaction Documents
- If applicable.
- Payment for Applicable Fees
