Indiana - How To Transfer A Title
Before beginning, please note the following:
- Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
- Do not erase anything or use white-out.
- Write neatly.
- Do not use nicknames.
- Mistakes can void the document.
Indiana Title Transfer
Front of Title:
*Green = Lienholder*
- If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
- If there is more than one lienholder, they will also release the lien by entering the required information.
Back of Title:
*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer*
- The seller enters the exact odometer reading.
- Don't include tenths of a mile.
- Only check boxes 1 or 2 if the reading is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or if the reading is not the actual mileage.
- The seller signs and prints their name and enters the date of the sale and the selling price.
- The buyer enters their name, address, city, state, zip code, the name address, city, state, and zip code of the lienholder to appear on the new title, if applicable. The seller then signs and prints their name.
What to Bring to the BMV
- The Original Title
- Application for Certificate of Title
- Page 2 of PDF
- Odometer Disclosure Statement
- Only if the odometer information wasn't completed on the title.
- Page 5 of PDF
- Proof of Residency
- Proof of Vehicle Inspection
- Payment for Applicable Fees
