Alabama Vehicle Registration
Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.
- Properly Filled Out Title.
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
- If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local MVD.
- VIN/Ownership Documentation Inspection.
- If the vehicle has an out-of-state title.
- Previous License Plates
- Only if you want to transfer them to the new vehicle.
- Odometer Disclosure Statement
- Only for vehicles less than ten years old.
- Valid Alabama Auto Insurance Policy.
- Proof of Residency for your County.
- Valid Form of Identification
- Most Recent Registration Documents for the Vehicle.
- Emissions Test
- The state of Alabama does NOT require emissions testing.

*Residents of Alabama have 20 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
