Colorado Vehicle Registration

Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Properly Filled Out Title or Current Registration Certificate
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale
    • If you have questions concerning the bill of sale, contact your local DMV.
  • Valid Colorado Auto Insurance Policy
  • Valid Form of Identification
  • VIN Verification Form
    • Only if the vehicle was titled outside of Colorado.
    • Must be performed by a law enforcement officer, a licensed Colorado emissions testing station agent, or a licensed car dealer.
  • Emissions Test
    • Emissions tests are required for vehicle registration in the state of Colorado, with a few exceptions.

  • Payment for all Applicable Taxes and Fees
    • Contact your local DMV to learn more about fees.

*Residents of Colorado have 60 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
