Illinois Vehicle Registration

Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Properly Filled Out Title
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
    • If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local ISOS.
  • Application for Vehicle Transaction
  • Proof of a Valid Illinois Auto Insurance Policy
  • Information (Name and Address) of all Lienholders
    • If applicable
  • Private Party Vehicle Tax Transaction

  • Names and Addresses of Lienholders
    • If applicable.
  • Odometer Disclosure Statement for Title Transfers
    • Must be signed by both the new and previous owner.
  • Valid Form of Identification
  • Emissions Test
    • The state of Illinois requires all vehicles to pass an emissions test.

  • Payment for all Applicable Taxes and Fees

*Residents of Illinois have 20 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
