Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Properly Filled Out Title
    • If the title is held by a lienholder, ask them to fax a copy of the title to your county treasurer.
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
    • If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local DOV.
  • Valid Form of Identification 
  • Valid Kansas Auto Insurance Policy
  • Title and Registration Application
  • Motor Vehicle Examination Certificate
    • Only if the vehicle was purchased out of state or has an out-of-state title.
  • Emissions Test
    • The state of Kansas does NOT require emissions tests.

*Residents of Kansas have 60 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
