Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Properly Filled Out Title
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
    • If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local DMV.
  • Application for Kentucky Certificate of Title or Registration
    • Only required for vehicles whose titles were issued before February 2000
    • Vehicle titles issued February 2000 and after need to fill out the assignment and transaction form found on the back of the title.
  • Sheriff's Inspection
    • Only if the vehicle was brought into Kentucky from another state.
  • Valid Form of Identification
  • Valid Kentucky Auto Insurance Policy
  • Your Social Security Number
  • Emissions Test
    • The state of Kentucky does NOT require an emissions test.

  • Payment for all Applicable Taxes and Fees
    • Contact your local DMV to learn more about applicable fees.

*Residents of Kentucky have 15 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
