Utah - How To Transfer A Title

Before beginning, please note the following:

  • Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
  • Do not erase anything or use white-out.
  • Write neatly.
  • Do not use nicknames.
  • Mistakes can void the document.

Utah Title Transfer

Front of Title:

*Teal = Buyer, Green = Lienholder*

  1. The buyer marks if they want the new title to be free of liens or be issued a title with a new lienholder listed.
  2. If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
  3. If the buyer chooses to have a new lienholder on the title, they will sign their name and then enter the new lienholder's name, address, city, state, and zip code.

Back of Title:

*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer, Green = Lienholder*

  1. The seller enters the exact odometer reading, marks box 1, stating that the odometer reading reflects the actual mileage, enters the sale and sale price date, prints their name and address, and signs their name and date of the sale.
    1. Don't include tenths of a mile.
    2. Only check boxes 2 or 3 if the mileage is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or the reading is not the actual mileage.
  2. The buyer prints their name, address, city, state, and zip code and then enters their signature.
  3. If applicable, the buyer enters the name, street address, city, state, and zip code of the lienholder to appear on the new title.
  4. The lienholder signs their name.
