Louisiana Vehicle Registration

Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Properly Filled Out Title
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
    • If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local OMV.
  • Vehicle's Current Registration
  • Vehicle Application
  • Odometer Disclosure Statement
    • Only for vehicles that are less than ten years old.
    • This can be filled out on the back of the title.
  • A Loan Document
    • If applicable
    • This can include:
      • UCC-1 Financing Statement
      • Security Agreement
  • Valid Form of Identification
  • Valid Louisiana Auto Insurance Policy
  • Proof of Sales Tax Payment
    • Only if you paid tax in another state and will be claiming credit for it.
  • Emissions Test
    • The state of Louisiana requires emissions testing in specific areas.

  • Payment for all Applicable Taxes and Fees
    • Click here to view vehicle fees or contact your local OMV.

*Residents of Louisiana have 40 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
