New Mexico Vehicle Registration

Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Properly Filled Out Title
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale
    • If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local MVD.
  • Valid New Mexico Auto Insurance Policy
  • Valid Form of Identification
  • Application for Vehicle Title and Registration
  • Release of Lien Form
    • If applicable
  • Power of Attorney
    • Only if someone other than the resident applies.
  • Proof of Residency
    • You will need to bring two documents.
    • Bank statement, pay stub, New Mexico car registration certificate.
  • Emissions Test
    • Required for vehicles registered in Bernalillo County.

*Residents of New Mexico have 30 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
