Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Properly Filled Out Title
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale
    • If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local DMV.
  • Statement of Transaction Sales Tax Form
    • Signed by both the buyer and seller.
  • Title Application and Vehicle Registration Form
  • Valid New York Driver's License  or Photo ID
  • Valid New York Auto Insurance Policy

  • Safety Inspection
    • Must be done at a DMV-licensed inspection station.

    • The state of New York requires all vehicles to pass an emissions test, with some exceptions.

  • Payment for all Applicable Taxes and Fees

*Residents of New York have 180 days from the effective date on their insurance ID card to register their vehicle.
