South Carolina Vehicle Registration
Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.
- Properly Filled Out Title
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
- If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local DMV.
- Title and/or Registration Application
- Form 400
- Found under "Vehicle Title and Registration Forms."
- Valid South Carolina Auto Insurance Policy
- Must provide the name of the insurance provider, NOT the name of the agent.
- Paid Property Tax Receipt
- Only if requesting a new plate.
- Emissions Test
- The state of South Carolina does NOT require emissions testing.

*Residents of South Carolina have 45 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
