Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Properly Filled Out Title
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
    • If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local DMV.
  • Title and/or Registration Application
    • Form 400
    • Found under "Vehicle Title and Registration Forms."
  • Valid South Carolina Auto Insurance Policy
    • Must provide the name of the insurance provider, NOT the name of the agent.
  • Paid Property Tax Receipt
    • Only if requesting a new plate.
  • Emissions Test
    • The state of South Carolina does NOT require emissions testing.

*Residents of South Carolina have 45 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
