Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Properly Filled Out Title
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
    • If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local DOR.
  • Valid Form of Identity
  • Proof of Residency
    • Can include, but is not limited to, the following:
      • Driver's license, birth certificate, military ID.
  • Odometer Disclosure Statement
    • Only for vehicles less than ten years old.
  • Current Registration
    • Only if you are transferring your license plates.
  • Emissions Test
    • Residents residing in certain counties are required to get an emissions test.

*Residents of Tennessee have 21 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
