Tennessee Vehicle Registration
Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.
- Properly Filled Out Title
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
- If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local DOR.
- Valid Form of Identity
- Proof of Residency
- Can include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Driver's license, birth certificate, military ID.
- Can include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Odometer Disclosure Statement
- Only for vehicles less than ten years old.
- Current Registration
- Only if you are transferring your license plates.
- Emissions Test
- Residents residing in certain counties are required to get an emissions test.

*Residents of Tennessee have 21 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
