Mississippi - How To Transfer A Title
Before beginning, please note the following:
- Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
- Do not erase anything or use white-out.
- Write neatly.
- Do not use nicknames.
- Mistakes can void the document.
Mississippi Title Transfer
Front of Title:
*Green = Lienholder, Purple = Witness*
- If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
- If there is more than one lienholder, they will also release the lien by entering the required information.
- A witness will enter the required information.
Back of Title:
*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer*
- The seller enters the exact odometer reading and enters their signature, printed name, and date of the sale.
- Don't include tenths of a mile.
- Only check boxes 1 or 2 if the mileage is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or if the reading is not the actual mileage.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also sign and print their name.
- The buyer signs and prints their name.
- If there is a co-buyer, they will also sign and print their name.
- If applicable, the buyer will enter the name and address of the lienholder to appear on the new title.
What to Bring to the Tax Collector's Office
- The Original or Duplicate Title
- Application for Mississippi Title and License
- This can be obtained at your local Tax Collector's Office.
- Proof of Lien Satisfaction
- If applicable.
- Valid Form of Identification
- Proof of Mississippi Residency
- Proof of Valid Mississippi Auto Insurance Policy
- Payment for Applicable Fees
