Missouri - How To Transfer A Title
Before beginning, please note the following:
- Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
- Do not erase anything or use white-out.
- Write neatly.
- Do not use nicknames.
- Mistakes can void the document.
Missouri Title Transfer
Front of Title:
*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer*
- The buyer prints and signs their name and enters their address, city, state, zip code, driver's license number, and date of birth, as well as the sale price, body, year, make, VIN, and title number of the vehicle.
- The seller prints and signs their name.
Back of Title:
*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer*
- The seller prints their name and address and then enters the sale price, date of the sale, and the vehicle model.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also print their name.
- The seller enters the exact odometer reading and signs and prints their name.
- Don't include tenths of a mile.
- Only check boxes 1 or 2 if the mileage is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or the reading is not the actual mileage.
- If there is a co-seller, they will also sign and print their name.
- The buyer signs and prints their name.
- If there is a co-buyer, they will also sign and print their name.
- If applicable, the buyer enters the name and address of the lienholder to appear on the new title and the lien date.
- If there is more than one lienholder, the buyer will also enter the name and address of the lienholder and the date of the lien.
What to Bring to the Missouri License Office
- The Original or Duplicate Title
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
- Notice of Sale or
- Application for Missouri Title and License
- Notice of Lien, Lien Release, or Authorization to Add/Remove Name from Title
- If applicable
- Proof of a Valid Missouri Auto Insurance Policy
- Proof of VIN Inspection and Odometer Inspection
- Only if the previous vehicle title is not from the state of Missouri
- Payment for Applicable Fees
