Nebraska - How To Transfer A Title

Before beginning, please note the following:

  • Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
  • Do not erase anything or use white-out.
  • Write neatly.
  • Do not use nicknames.
  • Mistakes can void the document.

Nebraska Title Transfer

Front of Title:

*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer, Green = Lienholder*

  1. If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
    1. If there is more than one lienholder, they will also release the lien by entering the required information.
  2. The seller enters the exact odometer reading.
    1. Don't include tenths of a mile.
    2. Only check boxes 1 or 2 if the mileage is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or the reading is not the actual mileage.
  3. The seller signs and prints their name, enters the sale date, and the buyer's name, address, city, state, and zip code.
    1. If there are co-sellers, they will also sign their name.
  4. The buyer signs their name.

Back of Title:

*Teal = Buyer*

  1. The buyer enters their name, address, city, state, and zip code.
    1. If there is a co-buyer, they will also enter their name.
  2. If applicable, the buyer enters the name, address, city, state, and zip code of the lienholder to appear on the new title. The buyer then enters their signature.
    1. If there is no new lienholder, write "NONE."
    2. If there is a co-buyer, they will also sign their name.

What to Bring to the DMV

  • The Original or Duplicate Title
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
  • Vehicle Inspection Form
    • Only if the vehicle was purchased out of state
  • Application for Certificate of Title
  • Payment for Applicable Fees
