Ohio - How To Transfer A Title
Before beginning, please note the following:
- Only use black or blue ink. Any other color will void the title.
- Do not erase anything or use white-out.
- Write neatly.
- Do not use nicknames.
- Mistakes can void the document.
Ohio Title Transfer
Front of Title:
*Green = Lienholder*
- If applicable, the lienholder will release the lien by entering the required information.
- If there is more than one lienholder, they will also release the lien by entering the required information.
Back of Title:
*Red = Seller, Teal = Buyer, Green = Notary*
- The seller enters the date the vehicle was delivered, the price, the buyer's name, and if they (the seller) are a minor.
- If there is a co-buyer, the seller will also enter their name.
- The seller enters the exact odometer reading.
- Don't include tenths of a mile.
- Only mark boxes 1 or 2 if the mileage is in excess of the odometer's mechanical limits or the reading is not the actual mileage.
- The seller prints and signs their name and enters their address.
- A notary enters the required information.
- The buyer prints and signs their name.
- The buyer marks which certificate they are applying for, their printed name, address, social security number, purchase price, and vehicle condition.
- If applicable, the buyer enters the name and address of the lienholder to appear on the new title, marks whether they (the buyer) is a minor, then signs their name.
- The notary enters the required information.
