Massachusetts Vehicle Registration
Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale
- If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local RMV.
- Application for Registration and Title
- Must be signed and stamped by your auto insurance agent.
- If applicable, make sure to enter the lienholder's information.
- Odometer Disclosure Statement
- Only if not filled out on the back of the title.
- Valid Massachusetts Auto Insurance Policy
- Insurance agent must sign and stamp the application for registration and title.
- Vehicle Inspection Sticker
- Must be completed within 7 days of the registration date.
- Emissions Test
- The state of Massachusetts requires all vehicles to get an emissions test, with a few exemptions.
- Must be completed within 7 days of the registration date.

- Payment for all Applicable Taxes and Fees
*Massachusetts title law requires all vehicles to be titled within 10 days of purchase.
