Massachusetts Vehicle Registration

Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale
    • If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local RMV.
  • Application for Registration and Title
    • Must be signed and stamped by your auto insurance agent.
    • If applicable, make sure to enter the lienholder's information.
  • Odometer Disclosure Statement
    • Only if not filled out on the back of the title.
  • Valid Massachusetts Auto Insurance Policy
    • Insurance agent must sign and stamp the application for registration and title.
  • Vehicle Inspection Sticker
    • Must be completed within 7 days of the registration date.
  • Emissions Test
    • The state of Massachusetts requires all vehicles to get an emissions test, with a few exemptions.
    • Must be completed within 7 days of the registration date.

  • Payment for all Applicable Taxes and Fees

*Massachusetts title law requires all vehicles to be titled within 10 days of purchase.
