Minnesota - How To Register My Vehicle

Minnesota Vehicle Registration

Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Properly Filled Out Title
    • If the title is not available, you may use a current vehicle registration card.
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
    • If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local DVS.
  • Application to Title and Register a Motor Vehicle
  • Notification of Assignment, Grant of Secured Interest
    • Only if the title shows that a lien has been satisfied.
  • Valid Form of Identification
  • Valid Minnesota Auto Insurance Policy
  • Copy of Lease Agreement or Power of Attorney
    • If applicable.
    • Must include the leasing company's Minnesota Tax ID number.
  • Emissions Test
    • The state of Minnesota does NOT require emissions testing.

  • Payment for all Applicable Taxes and Fees

*Residents of Minnesota have ten days after the purchase date to register their vehicle.
