Missouri Vehicle Registration

Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.

  • Properly Filled Out Title
  • Bill of Sale
    • Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
    • If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local DOR.
  • Application for Missouri Title and License
    • Vehicles purchased out of state must also provide VIN and odometer inspection certificates.
  • Valid Missouri Auto Insurance Policy
  • Vehicle Inspection
    • Missouri requires all vehicles to pass a vehicle inspection, with a few exceptions.

    • Must be performed by an authorized Missouri inspection station.
    • Inspection certificates are valid for 60 days, including the day of the inspection.
  • Notarized Notice of Lien, Lien Release, or Authorization to Add/Remove Name from Title
    • If applicable.
  • Odometer Disclosure Statement
    • Only for vehicles 20 years old and newer.
  • Emissions Test
    • The state of Missouri requires all vehicles to pass an emissions test, with a few exceptions.

  • Payment for all Applicable Taxes and Fees

*Residents of Missouri have 30 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
