New Jersey Vehicle Registration
Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.
- Properly Filled Out Title
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale
- If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local MVC.
- Valid New Jersey Auto Insurance Policy
- Odometer Reading
- A $25 fee will be issued if you don't provide the odometer reading within ten days of purchasing the vehicle.
- Proof of Social Security Number
- New Jersey Driver's License Number
- If you don't have a driver's license, you must provide six points worth of identification.
- Application for Vehicle Registration
- Emissions Test
- The state of New Jersey requires emissions testing, with some exceptions.

*Residents of New Jersey have 10 business days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
