Rhode Island Vehicle Registration
Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.
- Properly Filled out Title
- The ORIGINAL title is required for vehicle years 2001 or newer.
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
- If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local DMV.
- Application for Registration and Certificate of Title
- Valid Rhode Island Auto Insurance Policy
- Valid Rhode Island Driver's License or ID Card
- Use Tax Form
- Gross Vehicle Weight
- Found on the driver's side door
- Proof of Previous Owner
- Only for non-title vehicles.
- VIN Check
- Only required for vehicle years 2001 and newer or vehicles with an out-of-state title.
- Safety Inspection
- All newly registered vehicles must have a Rhode Island inspection certificate.
- Emissions Test
- The state of Rhode Island requires vehicles to pass an emissions test.
