Washington Vehicle Registration
Failure to provide the following can delay the registration process.
- Properly Filled Out Title
- If not held by a lienholder
- If the title is held by a lienholder, they must send a copy of the front and back of the title.
- Bill of Sale
- Bring your PrivateAuto bill of sale.
- If you have questions regarding the bill of sale, contact your local DOL.
- Vehicle Certificate of Ownership Application
- Must be signed by all owners in order to be verified by a licensing agent.
- Affidavit of Loss/Release of Interest
- Only if the seller does not have the title.
- Must be signed by both parties and in front of a notary, county auditor, or licensing agent.
- Odometer Disclosure Statement
- Only for vehicles up to ten years old.
- Can be obtained by visiting a licensing office, emailing titles@dol.wa.gov, or calling (360) 902-3900.
- Emissions Test
- The state of Washington requires all non-exempt gas and diesel vehicles in the following counties to pass an emissions test, with some exemptions.
- Clark
- King
- Pierce
- Snohomish
- Spokane

- Payment for all Applicable Taxes and Fees
*Residents of Washington have 15 days from the purchase date to register their vehicle.
Residents of Washington can also apply for registration by mail.

- You will be mailed the title and registration within ten weeks.
- Plates may take up to 3 weeks to be mailed.
- You can receive an odometer disclosure statement in the following ways:
- By visiting a licensing office.
- Requesting one by e-mailing titles@dol.wa.gov
- Calling (360) 902-3900
- The odometer disclosure statement is not available to be downloaded, faxed, or e-mailed.
