How To List A Vintage Vehicle

Due to the age of some vehicles, the VIN may be under 17 numbers, causing the VIN software not to accept it as a valid VIN. Don't worry! There is a way around this, and you can still list your vintage vehicle on PrivateAuto.

1. After you have entered the vehicle type, State registered, and VIN or plate # in Step 1, click "Find my vehicle." If it is vintage vehicle, our system won't be able to decode a VIN and therefore, you will see a pop-up asking whether you have made a typo or are listing a vintage vehicle:

2. You will want to select the vintage vehicle option and fill in the vehicle information manually, along with your zip code and asking price, in the empty fields.

3. You will see that there is now a blue checkmark next to "Vehicle Details," and your vehicle will now appear on the left nav bar in case you need to come back later to finish the listing.

4. Begin step 2 by uploading photos of your vehicle.

   

   1. Here are a few photo tips:
   • We recommend taking high-quality photos, which you can do with your smartphone or camera.
   • Be sure to include at least 5 images capturing both the interior and exterior of the vehicle, making sure to clean the car before the photoshoot.
   • Once the photos are uploaded, you can drag and drop them in any order. You will want your first image to be the best-looking photo since this will be the first thing potential buyers see on the listing page.

5. Step 3 is the last required step in order to list your vehicle. Note that you must complete each field in order to click save.

   

   • Although it is not required, we recommend you complete the optional steps 4-5; instructions for those steps will be shown after the listing activation steps.

6. Now that you have completed steps 1-3, you can list your vehicle by pressing "Activate Listing."

   

7. Select if you would like to pay for your listing now or pay later.

Congrats, your listing is now live! Listings last for 90 days, with the opportunity to renew for free within a 30-day grace period. Be sure to check out these features outlined in red now that you're listing is live:

• You can now view your listing to see how a buyer will see it by clicking the "View Listing" button
• Be sure to print out the Window Brochure to place on your car, which includes a QR code, so you don't have to advertise your personal phone number on your car. Scanning the QR code will take buyers directly to your listings page

• Print or download your AutoCheck vehicle history report. Buyers will have access to this report directly on the listing page as long as they have created a free PrivateAuto account.

1. In Step 4, you can select days and times that you're available for inspections and/or test drives with potential buyers.
   1. Enter your preferred meetup location for test drives and/or inspections, then press "Save." We recommend choosing a public place over your personal address to safely meet with potential buyers.
2. In Step 5 , answer the following questions and upload any documents such as the vehicle title, warranty info, and proof of upgrades/mods (all documents will remain private until shared with a specific buyer). Then press "Save."
3. In Step 6, Select your preferred verified status and payment method preferences, then press "Save."

• When Full verification is required, buyers must complete phone, email, and driver's license verification before being able to message you about the vehicle. This is a great feature to prevent scammers from contacting you. For further security, you can request "Verified funds," where a buyer would need to prove they have the funds available in their PrivateAuto Pay account before scheduling a test drive or making an offer.
• The payment methods will be displayed on your listing, so buyers will know how you prefer to be paid.
