Do You Have A Co-Seller On The Title?

If you have a co-seller on your title, there are a few things to know. The title rules below explain whether your co-seller needs to sign at all. If they do, you'll add them to your deal so they can verify their identity and sign the documents.

Does my co-seller need to sign?

Almost every state uses the "and/or" rule.

If you see "and" on the title, both owners must sign the title to transfer or change it.

If you see "and/or" or just "or" on the title, only one of the owners needs to sign.

If your co-seller needs to be added

  • If you're the seller adding a co-seller — see Adding A Co-Seller. You'll enter their email, send the invitation, and they'll handle the verification and signing on their end.
  • If you've been invited as a co-seller — see What To Expect as the Co-Seller. The article walks through verification, document signing, and what happens after.
